Choice Red & Brown 1837

Lustrous slightly mellowed mint red fading to olive brown with 25% of the obverse and 50% of the reverse showing mint color. Sharply struck and very attractive with only a few trivial defects. The notable marks are two tiny specks of darker toning at the dentil tips just right of the date, a tiny planchet chip at the rim over ES in STATES, and two small nicks on the rim under the end of the wreath stem. EDS but not quite the earliest with a fine die crack from the bust through the portrait into the hair below star 8. A premium example of the date and type. Our grade is MS63.
