Choice glossy light chocolate brown. Smooth and void of any planchet flaws, stains, or notable contact marks. But the apparent wear is inconsistent. The obverse looks well worn while the reverse shows only moderate wear, perhaps a G6/VF25 split. The Ryder 12 obverse die was used in several marriages and it was worn out when this variety was struck. The same obverse/reverse sharpness difference is evident on all seen of this variety, even on high grade pieces. Comparable to the Taylor example. Weight 145.8 grains.
