Glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. Minor roughness shows in the fields and protected areas and there are a few tiny specks of greenish verdigris on both sides, but the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. No notable contact marks or planchet flaws. Struck over a 1785 NOVA CONSTELLATIO with strong undertype visible on both sides including “NOVA” at the shoulder and a bold “85” from the date at the top of the reverse. The bottom of the date is slightly off the planchet but the legends are clear and easily readable. Weight 108.5 grains.
